October 7, 2024The Danish Ambassador to Pakistan, Jakob Linulf, met with Romina Khurshid Alam, Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Climate Change, to discuss key bilateral matters, particularly Denmark’s assistance in Pakistan’s green energy transition and efforts in climate resilience, water and biodiversity conservation.
During the meeting, the two leaders explored current and future collaborative initiatives to address climate challenges faced by both nations. Alam emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to global climate action, highlighting the country’s efforts in protecting oceans, biodiversity, and water and energy resources. She stressed that preserving marine ecosystems and promoting sustainable practices along Pakistan’s coastline is a top priority, with the “clean ocean agenda” being central to these efforts. Alam noted that partnerships with the government, NGOs, and the corporate sector are instrumental in achieving these goals.
One of Pakistan’s significant achievements, according to Alam, has been the 300% increase in mangrove cover along its coastline. This milestone, praised internationally, underscores Pakistan’s dedication to environmental sustainability and climate resilience.
Ambassador Linulf highlighted Denmark’s extensive experience in renewable energy and sustainable practices, emphasizing the potential for knowledge sharing and technology transfer to help Pakistan achieve its climate goals. Both leaders agreed on the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation in renewable energy, water management, and climate resilience strategies.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to pursue further collaborative projects in areas such as green energy transition, water conservation, disaster risk management, and promoting sustainable development in Pakistan. Both nations also emphasized the urgent need for equitable climate financing for developing countries facing climate-induced disasters.
