April 16, 2025Turkiye and Denmark have agreed to enhance climate cooperation with Pakistan, as their ambassadors met Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Musadik Malik in Islamabad on Monday to discuss carbon credit initiatives, forestry management, and climate resilience.
During the meeting, Turkish Ambassador Irfan Neziroglu and Minister Musadik Malik discussed expanding investment in carbon credit projects by tapping into global and regional climate finance opportunities.
Neziroglu reiterated Turkiye’s support for Pakistan’s climate goals and stressed the importance of international cooperation in tackling global environmental challenges.
Musadik Malik welcomed the initiative, emphasizing that Pakistan must leverage carbon credit mechanisms to attract investment and enhance climate finance. Both sides agreed to hold a joint online meeting after Eid, bringing together senior officials from the environmental ministries of both countries to explore partnerships in waste management, circular economy, and sustainable energy projects.
Danish Ambassador Jakob Linulf also met Malik to discuss Pakistan’s climate risks and explore joint strategies for resilience. Linulf reiterated Denmark’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s climate mitigation and adaptation efforts, highlighting the urgency of global cooperation.
Malik underscored the importance of generating high-quality carbon credits to attract international funding and outlined Pakistan’s growing focus on renewable energy. He cited Pakistan State Oil’s newly launched renewable energy programme and Marri Petroleum’s transition to sustainable energy sources as key developments in the country’s green transition.
Climate Change Secretary Aisha Humaira Moriani briefed both meetings on Pakistan’s climate policies and programmes, highlighting the federal government’s efforts to involve provinces in climate action.
