New targets set by the G7 countries for solar and wind capacity
The seven richest nations of the world have set their collective targets to a new level for solar and off-shore wind capacity, mutually consenting to speed the renewable energy development to cut off the usage of fossil fuels. The previously set deadline for the transition was 2030, however, this has been stopped being endorsed and the room for investment in gas has been encouraged to meet any shortfalls. "In the midst of an unprecedented energy crisis, it's important to come up with measures to tackle climate change and promote energy security at the same time," Japanese industry minister Yasutoshi Nishimura told a news conference. "While acknowledging that there are diverse pathways to achieve carbon neutral, we agreed on the importance of aiming for a common goal toward 2050," he said.

Sindh in Relief after the installation of Solar Grids:
IET (Indus Earth Trust) is an organization that promotes green energy, has provided with a life-long solution for a small district named as Iqbal Jokhio in the province of Sindh. Power cuts had been the major issue of residents living in this area, however, the installation of 19-KW power grid powered by the solar energy has been the life saviour for people. “Villages were selected according to a needs assessment survey, while the villagers provided the land where the 19-kilowatt mini-grids were installed. In this hamlet caressed by the sea breeze from the Arabian Sea, panels bred prosperity,” reported the China Economic Net. According to an estimated report by NEPRA, the area utilizes 50% of the total electricity supply whereas the demand has been predicted to rise from 106 TW in 2020 to 234 TW by 2030, marking an increase by 121% due to climatic changes. Pakistan’s energy crisis has increased after the Russian Ukraine conflict and the global supply conflict. An increase has been noticed in the import bill at $23 billion in FY 2021-2022, 121% more than that of the previous year. But, luckily the efforts to nuzzle photovoltaic at all levels have started to pay-off. “Pakistan’s Solar Energy Market is expected to record a CAGR of 2.5% during the period from 2022 to 2027, with Net Metering-Based Solar Installations and Power Generation growing by 102% and 108% respectively,” said a KTrade Securities analyst.

1% of Canadian farmland having the potential to meet one-third of Canada’s energy needs.
Crops and solar panels can make a great pair and prove to be a massive source of energy for Canada. Putting solar panels on 1% of Canada’s farmland can help provide energy to one-third of the entire nation. According to a lot of research conducted, it has been observed that many crop plants nourish well alongside Solar panels. In a study conducted by Joshua Pearce, a researcher at the Western University, Department of electrical and computer engineering, it was noticed that crops like Kale and Chard have the potential to fare well with PV’s installed in neighbours while sharing some of their sun. Also, having solar panels does not always have to hinder the growth of these crops. “So, the way we did this study was: everyone uses their current crops. They would follow the same farming practices they use now, and we would just build the solar farms around them. And that's to cover all of our electrical needs,” Pearce suggested the Weather Network. The two forms of PVs i.e. Vertical and single-axis tracking systems were taken into consideration. Vertical panels are those that are horizontally aligned whereas the single-axis tracking system is where the motor tilts the face of the panel to catch the sun. According to the research paper, it was found out that the agrivoltaics have a huge potential in Canada. If the vertical PV’s are utilized, they have the capacity to meet one-third of Canada’s energy needs.

Europe takes strict measures to boost green energy and address climate issues:
Measures have been taken by the European countries in amending the regulations to control the carbon emissions and pollutants earlier this week. The changes are a result of long fierce debates and compromise among the European Union’s bloc of 27 countries. This change has been celebrated by the law-makers one that will help Europe to realize its emissions reduction goals while enabling the key industries to successfully transition away fossil fuels. However, the new transitions will place strain on several businesses operating in Europe still reeling from the 2022 energy shock sparked by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and may lead to further issues between the nations and member countries of EU. The changes include the measures that are to be taken by the EU states to cut off the emissions by 2030, and issuing permits that had been allocated to certain heavy polluters.

Morocco to be Europe’s Energy crisis Saviour:
“The resources we have could be one of the big, big answers to European demand,” says Moroccan energy entrepreneur Moundir Zniber. The European politicians are on the path to increase their efforts in combating with the climatic changes with new sources of clean energy. Morocco on the other hand has shown great interest in becoming the solution provider for them. Europe tends to have ambitious plans on generating 52% of its power through renewable energy sources by the end of 2030. The hope is to export electricity via undersea cables to Europe. However, the division still lacks meeting the total demand of power and has yet to build many solar and wind farms. Currently it is dependent on 90% of its energy supply received via imports generated through fossil fuels, which is an increased cost for the economy. As per the stats of 2021, nearly 80.5% of Morocco’s electricity was generated through fossil fuels i.e. through coal, gas, and oil. In contrast to renewable energy that supported a smaller chunk of power generation including 12.4% from wind, and 4.4% from solar. However, Morocco is making great efforts to make remarkable progress in boosting the renewable energy generation with its various projects, Noor Ouarzazate Solar Complex being one of the major projects in this regard. Mr. Zniber is the owner of Gaia Energy, one of the leading renewable energy producing companies in Morocco. He has spent past 15 years in making his company as the revolutionary energy supplier. He suggests that private firms like his are developing wind and solar schemes that could meet up to 4% of European Electricity needs.

Sand can now become Solar Panels:
While sand is an essential raw material for the production of solar cells, not every kind of sand has the tendency to do so. Sand that is rich is silicon dioxide and meets exacting standards to ensure the resulting solar cell works efficiently can convert sunlight into electricity. If you are looking to install a solar system in your home and say goodbye to your electricity bills, you can thank sand for this purpose. As sand makes its way anywhere, it also makes its way through the Solar Panels. The two most common types of household solar panels utilized are monocrystalline and crystalline – Both of these start with sand rich in silicon dioxide content which is being heated and purified to form silicon blocks called ingots. Thus, thanking sand for providing you with cost efficient solar panels would not be wrong.
