Oman Energy Minister Says Strait of Hormuz Disruptions Will Be Temporary

Oman’s Energy Minister, Salim Al Aufi, said that disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz are expected to be short-lived and expressed confidence that the strategic waterway will reopen. He noted that while recent geopolitical tensions have driven up oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices, such elevated prices are not sustainable over the long term.

Al Aufi emphasized that Oman has maintained stable oil and gas production despite regional instability. He also stressed the importance of diversifying export routes and developing alternative energy corridors to reduce reliance on a single shipping chokepoint, suggesting options through Oman or Yemen.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical maritime passages, handling a significant share of global oil exports. Oman’s comments come amid ongoing concerns over energy security and supply disruptions in the Gulf region, although Muscat remains optimistic that the current situation will stabilize in the medium term.
